The National Cancer Institute (NCI) leads the cancer research community toward accelerating the rate of scientific discovery and reducing the burden of cancer in the United States and around the world. NCI is the federal government's principal agency for cancer research and training. Our scope of work spans a wide range of research disciplines—from basic science to epidemiology to clinical trials. Most of NCI’s budget is used to fund research at universities and research centers across the country.
