About the Cancer.gov Evolution
In February 2010, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) announced an effort 1 to evolve its flagship Web presence, Cancer.gov. The evolution of Cancer.gov will occur in several phases. This page will provide ongoing updates and program milestones for the site's evolution.
The open dialogue period to improve Cancer.gov has been concluded. This effort has been an unprecedented opportunity for numerous stakeholders to get involved, including advocates and advocacy organizations, NCI-designated cancer centers, NCI-supported programs, extramural researchers, health care professionals, and the public.
User Input
NCI cast a wide net in the early stages of the process by collecting recommendations from both internal and external audiences. The public was invited to share and vote on ideas. We asked for your suggestions on ways to improve Cancer.gov and you responded with many insightful recommendations. You can see all the ideas submitted by the public at www.cancergov.ideascale.com.
Next Steps
NCI will review the concepts captured from internal and external audiences and evaluate these ideas through focus groups and interviews with individual users. Subject matter experts will help ensure that the viewpoints of critical audiences are represented. We anticipate focusing our initial efforts on short-term enhancements. As the evolution continues, longer-term solutions will be proposed and implemented.
