EPEC™-O: Cultural Considerations When Caring for African Americans
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Office of Communications and Education (OCE) partnered with the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) to develop an adaptation of the original curriculum, EPEC™-O (Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care for Oncology).
The new curricular content was contributed to and vetted by interdisciplinary leaders in the care of African Americans with advanced cancer, including those who are dedicated to improving access to and quality of hospice and palliative care for African Americans. Physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, chaplains, lawyers, communication experts, and outreach coordinators from academia, government, hospice, and community practice lent their voices to this endeavor.
