Brain Cancer Trial Results
1. Video Eases End-of-Life Care Discussions (Posted: 01/12/2010) - Patients with malignant glioma who watched a video that depicts options for end-of-life care were more certain of their end-of-life decision making than patients who only listened to a verbal narrative and were likely to choose comfort care over aggressive medical care for their end-of-life care preferences, according to an article published online November 30, 2009, in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

2. Adding Temozolomide (Temodar®) to Radiation Increases Survival in Glioblastoma Multiforme (Posted: 06/07/2004, Updated: 06/01/2009) - The survival benefit obtained by adding the drug temozolomide (Temodar®) to postoperative radiation therapy in the treatment of a brain tumor called glioblastoma multiforme persists over time, according to the March 9 issue of Lancet Oncology.

3. Palliative Radiation Extends Survival for Elderly Patients with Glioblastoma (Posted: 04/30/2007) - Elderly patients with glioblastoma benefit from palliative radiation therapy, which provides significantly increased survival with no detriment to quality of life, according to the April 12, 2007, New England Journal of Medicine.

4. Fluorescence-Guided Surgery Postpones Relapse in Patients with Malignant Glioma (Posted: 05/30/2006) - Fluorescence-guided surgery delayed the progression of malignant glioma (a form of brain cancer) compared to conventional surgery, but didn't help patients live longer, according to the May 2006 issue of Lancet Oncology.

5. Radiotherapy Immediately After Surgery Postpones Relapse, but not Death, in Patients With Low-Grade Gliomas (Posted: 10/12/2005) - Patients treated with radiotherapy immediately following surgery for low-grade glioma (a form of brain cancer) lived about two years longer before relapse than patients treated with radiotherapy only after their disease had begun to progress. However, the early treatment didn't help patients live longer overall, according to the Sept. 17, 2005, issue of the Lancet.
