What is caBIG®?
NCI's Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG®) is a virtual network of interconnected data, individuals, and organizations that redefines how research is conducted, care is provided, and patients/participants interact with the biomedical research enterprise. The caBIG® goals are to:
- Connect the cancer research community through a shareable, interoperable infrastructure
- Deploy and extend standard rules and a common language to more easily share information
- Build or adapt tools for collecting, analyzing, integrating and disseminating information associated with cancer research and care
For clinical researchers, caBIG® applications and services are designed to help with patient recruitment; clinical trial management; managing study data and processes; and adhering to regulations (privacy, HIPAA, IRB), ethics, and standard of care. These free and open source resources work within an organization's existing IT systems and can connect with other 3rd party tools—like clinical data management systems—to leverage industry-standards and simplify the tasks needed to collect and manage clinical trials data.
