Washington U researchers identify a possible culprit in spread of colon cancer

Growing in three dimensional culture, colon cancer cells formed either smooth hollow structures (top) or spiky clumps (bottom). PLAC8 was highly expressed in the spiky clumps, which were shown to form rapidly spreading tumors in mice.

Among the research institutions NCI funds across the United States, it currently designates 68 as Cancer Centers. Largely based in research universities, these facilities are home to many of the NCI-supported scientists who conduct a wide range of intense, laboratory research into cancer’s origins and development.
