Trial Description

Purpose:

Imatinib mesylate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for tumor cell growth.

This phase II trial is studying how well imatinib mesylate works in treating patients with refractory metastatic and/or unresectable stomach or gastroesophageal junction cancer.

Eligibility:

Eligibility criteria include the following:

Final eligibility for a clinical trial is determined by the health professionals conducting the trial.

Treatment/Intervention:

Patients will receive imatinib mesylate by mouth twice a day for as long as benefit is shown. Patients will be evaluated periodically for 1 month.
