Trial Description

Purpose:

Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage cancer cells. Combining chemotherapy and radiation therapy together with bone marrow transplant may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more cancer cells.

This phase II trial is studying how well giving bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor together with cyclophosphamide and total-body irradiation works in treating patients with hematologic cancer.

Eligibility:

Eligibility criteria include the following:

Final eligibility for a clinical trial is determined by the health professionals conducting the trial.

Treatment/Intervention:

Patients will receive high-dose cyclophosphamide and total-body irradiation for 4 days followed by infusion of donor bone marrow plus filgrastim. Some patients may also receive sargramostim. Patients will receive tacrolimus and methotrexate to prevent graft-versus-host disease. Patients will receive follow-up evaluations at approximately 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and once a year thereafter.

Important:
