Alternate Title Phase II Study of Carbon Dioxide Laser Surgery and Radiation Therapy in Stage I, II, and Selected Stage III Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Supraglottic Larynx
Trial Description Laser surgery for cancer of the larynx may have fewer side effects and improve recovery. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Combining radiation therapy and laser surgery may kill more tumor cells. Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of laser surgery plus radiation therapy in treating patients with early stage cancer of the larynx.
Final eligibility for a clinical trial is determined by the health professionals conducting the trial. Within 4 weeks of registration, patients will undergo laser surgery followed 2 weeks later by radiation therapy. Some patients may undergo surgery to remove lymph nodes in the neck. Patients will receive follow-up evaluations every 3 months for 1 year, every 6 months for 1 year, and once a year thereafter.
