Trial Description

Purpose:

Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug or combining chemotherapy with surgery may kill more tumor cells.

Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy and surgery in treating patients who have stage III or stage IV ovarian epithelial cancer, primary peritoneal cancer, or fallopian tube cancer.

Eligibility:

Eligibility criteria include the following:

Final eligibility for a clinical trial is determined by the health professionals conducting the trial.

Treatment/Intervention:

Patients will receive infusions of paclitaxel and carboplatin every 3 weeks for three courses. Within 5 weeks of the last course, some patients will undergo surgery to remove the tumor. Within 5 weeks of surgery, some patients will receive an infusion of paclitaxel followed by an intraperitoneal infusion of carboplatin on day 1, and an intraperitoneal infusion of paclitaxel on day 8. Treatment may be repeated every 4 weeks for up to six courses. Patients will receive follow-up evaluations every 3 months for 1 year, every 6 months for 2 years, and once a year for up to 5 years.
