Trial Description

Purpose:

Biological therapies such as gefitinib may interfere with the growth of tumor cells by blocking an enzyme necessary for cell growth.

Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of gefitinib in treating patients who have recurrent and/or metastatic head and neck cancer.

Eligibility:

Eligibility criteria include the following:

• At least 18 years old
• Measurable disease
• No brain metastases
• At least 4 weeks since chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery

Final eligibility for a clinical trial is determined by the health professionals conducting the trial.

Treatment/Intervention:

Patients will receive gefitinib by mouth once a day for as long as benefit is shown.
