Acknowledgements

The Think Tanks in Cancer Biology were only possible because of the more than one hundred fifty outstanding extramural and intramural scientists who served willingly and enthusiastically as participants in one or more of the Think Tanks. The meeting rosters are included to recognize their contributions. Special thanks are due to the Chairs and Co-Chairs, who played critical roles in organizing the meetings and summarizing the recommendations, and to a few individuals who participated in more than one Think Tank. The overlapping participation contributed a level of continuity to the discussions.

The Think Tanks also owe much to the participation of the scientific staff members of the Division of Cancer Biology (DCB), who were involved in the choice of topics, the planning, the discussions during the meetings, and the post-meeting retreat that gave rise to this report. These same individuals will be responsible for implementing many of the final recommendations. Each Think Tank had one or more principal internal organizers. Several of the Think Tanks, however, were organized by active committees, and the principal organizers served as committee chairs. In these cases, the entire committee is not listed on the relevant report, but an asterisk is placed next to the name of all DCB staff members who contributed in a major way to the organization of one or more of the Think Tanks.

Last, but certainly not least, it is a pleasure to acknowledge the lead administrative role of Ms. Robin Brown in DCB. Robin dealt personally with all of the logistical details of most of the Think Tanks, in coordination most of the others with a support contractor, Palladian Partners. Robin served as Project Officer on the contract. Without her assistance, the organization and conduct of the Think Tanks would have been a burden on the entire Division. Instead, the organization was an enjoyable experience. Finally, it is a pleasure to acknowledge the efforts of Ms. Ellen Zaika, also of DCB, who played the lead administrative role for the Cancer Etiology Think Tank.
