The National Cancer Insitute (NCI) Office of Budget and Finance (OBF) conducts financial analyses and develops financial data and information related to the NCI budget. Created with this data, the NCI Budget Fact Book is an annual report that provides a range of information and data from the previous fiscal year, from NCI program structure to research project grant numbers to extramural programs and historical trends.

Recent Changes for Presenting Budget Data

Starting with the 2014 edition, NCI is re-titling the Fact Book from the "NCI Fact Book" to the "NCI Budget Fact Book." Although NCI used the same title for more than 40 years, as we adopt a more web-based approach to presenting NCI's budget and related data, we believe the new title better describes what the Fact Book contains.

In the past, we have provided hardcopy and PDF versions of the Fact Book. With the 2014 edition, we are offering a third option of digital content, which appears in this section of Cancer.gov. All of the Budget Fact Book data is now available for easy download, and there is also an option to view data as an image in the case of certain data sets.

Additionally, in previous years, we provided NCI organizational information as well as general cancer statistics. You can now find organizational information in About NCI and cancer statistics under About Cancer.

Order a Hardcopy

A limited number of Fact Books from prior years are available as hardcopy publications through the NCI Publications Locator.
