Eltrombopag olamine is approved to treat:

• Thrombocytopenia (lower-than-normal number of blood cells that help blood clots form). It is used in patients with chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). ITP is a condition in which these blood-clotting cells are destroyed by the immune system. Eltrombopag olamine is used in certain patients with ITP who have not gotten better with other drugs or surgery to remove the spleen.

Eltrombopag olamine is also being studied in the treatment of other conditions and types of cancer.
