Introduction

The Transition Career Development Award (K22) supports clinical postdoctoral fellows and new faculty working in cancer prevention, control, and population science ready to transition to independent academic faculty positions.

Applicant Eligibility

Citizenship
  • At the time of the award, the candidate must be a citizen of the United States, or a non-citizen national, or must have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence and possess an Alien Registration Receipt Card (1-151 or 1-551) or some other verification of legal admission as a permanent resident
  • Citizenship or green card is not needed to apply. Citizenship or green card is needed at the time of award issuance

Career Stage
  • Clinical fellows ready to transition to independent academic tenure-track assistant professor faculty investigator positions with ≥ 2 yrs postdoctoral cancer research training experience
  • New tenure-track assistant professor clinicians in basic, population and clinical human cancer research with ≤ 2 yrs in their first independent research position and ≥ 2 yrs postdoctoral cancer research training experience
  • Postdoctoral fellows working in human cancer prevention, control, behavior and population sciences cancer research that are ready to transition to independent academic faculty positions as tenure-track assistant professors
  • Postdoctoral fellows working in basic, population and clinical human cancer research in Federal research groups that are ready to transition to independent academic faculty positions as tenure-track assistant professors
Effort Level/ CommitmentCandidate must commit a minimum 9.0 calendar months (75%) full-time professional effort to the K22 career development award

3 yrs
The K22 award is not renewable

Financial Support

SalaryUp to $100K/ yr + fringe benefits
Research Development Support; i.e. salaries for technical support, consultant costs, equipment, supplies, travel, and statistical supportUp to $50K/ yr
