Introduction

The Cancer Education Grants Program (CEGP) (R25E) provides support for innovative educational programs that translate knowledge gained from research into public health applications.  Specifically, the types of Cancer Education Grant Programs (CEGPs) that may be supported by this funding opportunity announcement include:


1) Short-term Educational Programs: include workshops or courses that provide novel cancer-focused state-of-the-art research or methodological knowledge, or evidence-based cancer prevention and control interventions;  
 

2) Short-term Research Experience Programs: provide participants with a cancer-focused research training experience in a laboratory or field setting;
 

3) Institutional Curriculum Development Projects: support the development of curricula that bring recent advances in cancer research, treatment, diagnosis, or other cancer-focused knowledge to a broad audience.
 

The duration of short-term programs may not exceed 15 consecutive weeks.  The 15 week term may not be spread over a one-year period or occur with alternating periods.

PI Eligibility

US Citizen and Foreign NationalsU.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizen/permanent residents are eligible to apply for this award providing the U.S. institution where the candidate spends each phase of the award allows non-U.S. citizens to apply for grant support
Degree/Academic AppointmentEstablished Investigators (Associate and Full Professors)
CommitmentRecommended: 10 - 25%
Salary support allowed
Duration of AwardUp to 5 yrs of support 
Only R25E grants supporting Short-term Educational Programs or Short-term Research Experience Programs are renewable.

Trainee Eligibility

R25E Allowable Costs

Program PI and FacultySalary and fringe benefit support for the design and implementation of the research education program
Administrative SupportLimited, justified, administrative and clerical salary costs associated with their work on the program
Other Program-Related ExpensesConsultant costs, equipment, supplies, travel for key persons, and other program-related expenses must be justified
Program Participant Costs:
  • Subsistence allowance: including partial costs of meals and lodging unless such costs are furnished as part of the registration fee.
  • Funds to defray partial tuition, consultant costs, sub-contractual costs, other education-related, and travel expenses.
  • Funds will not be provided for fringe benefits or health insurance for participants in any research education program.
Direct costsUp to five years of funding up to $300,000 per year in direct costs.
