Trial Description

Purpose:

Inserting the gene for interferon-beta into a person's glioblastoma cells may make the body build an immune response to kill tumor cells.

Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of gene therapy in treating patients who have recurrent or progressive glioblastoma multiforme.

Eligibility:

Eligibility criteria include the following:

Final eligibility for a clinical trial is determined by the health professionals conducting the trial.

Treatment/Intervention:

Patients will receive an injection of the gene directly into the tumor. One week later they will undergo surgery to remove the tumor and receive a second injection of gene therapy into the tissue surrounding the tumor. Patients will be evaluated periodically for 1 year and every 6 months thereafter.
