About the Office of Advocacy Relations
The NCI Office of Advocacy Relations (OAR) serves as a conduit between NCI and the cancer advocacy community. Our office works with individual research advocates, local and national advocacy groups, and professional societies to ensure their perspectives are included in NCI efforts to advance cancer research and improve patient outcomes. In addition, OAR identifies and facilitates opportunities for NCI to collaborate with the advocacy community to reduce the burden of cancer.
A critical component of our work involves providing advocates with the tools needed to bring their knowledge, expertise, and collective patient perspective to the research process. OAR connects the right advocate to the right activity so he or she can provide the most effective and meaningful contributions when working with NCI.
OAR works to build relationships with stakeholders in the cancer research community to:
- Communicate NCI priorities
- Ensure the appropriate involvement of cancer research advocates in Institute activities
- Identify areas of alignment that advance research
