Changes to this Summary (12/15/2011)

The PDQ cancer information summaries are reviewed regularly and updated as new information becomes available. This section describes the latest changes made to this summary as of the date above.

General Information About Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)

Added text to state that in one study, 1% of neonatal blood spots (Guthrie cards) tested positive for the TEL-AML1 translocation, far exceeding the number of cases of TEL-AML ALL in children; other reports confirm and do not confirm this finding; nonetheless, this may support the hypothesis that additional genetic changes are needed for the development of this type of ALL (cited Mori et al., Zuna et al., and Lausten-Thomsen et al. as references 29, 30, and 31, respectively).

Cellular Classification and Prognostic Variables

Added Matutes et al. as reference 82 and Harvey et al. as reference 117.
