This trial studies the side effects of acupuncture in reducing pain in adolescents and young adults with cancer. Acupuncture is a method of traditional Chinese medicine that consists of the insertion of thin, sterile, disposable needles on specific acupuncture points. Acupuncture may help to relieve pain symptoms in adolescents and young adults with cancer.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
I. Using mixed methods, determine the acceptability, feasibility, and safety of acupuncture for pain management of adolescents and young adults (AYA) and associates of opting in to acupuncture relative to those who opt out.
SECONDARY OBJECTIVE:
I. Determine the preliminary effects of acupuncture for symptom management of AYA.
OUTLINE: Patients are assigned to 1 of 2 arms.
ARM I: Patients undergo acupuncture therapy over 20-30 minutes twice weekly for 2 weeks followed by once weekly for 6 weeks.
ARM II: Patients receive treatment as usual.
After completion of study, patients are followed up at 15 weeks.
