This trial studies how well a cancer screening and prevention program works in helping participants with high risk development breast or ovarian cancer. A cancer screening and prevention program including referral and clinic/diagnostic tests may provide participants with better medical resources.
Study sponsor and potential other locations can be found on ClinicalTrials.gov for NCT00849199.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
I. To educate women and their families regarding their risks of women’s cancers, to provide genetic counseling and, when indicated and desired, genetic testing for women at risk for hereditary cancers, especially ovarian cancer.
II. To provide referrals for diagnostic tests and to appropriate clinics to promote the early detection of cancer.
III. To provide information about clinical trials and investigational screening methods in cancer early detection and prevention, whenever applicable.
SECONDARY OBJECTIVES:
I. To create a team of health care professionals to assess the risk of the women who come to the clinic and provide them with the appropriate follow-up care.
II. To provide educational materials describing risk reduction, prevention, genetic testing and the importance of a healthy lifestyle to these patients.
III. To seek and develop research protocols in the areas of early detection and treatment.
IV. To create a registry of family history data from women of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds who attend our clinic, i.e. who perceive themselves to be at increased risk of breast or gynecologic cancers.
OUTLINE:
