Pembrolizumab and Radiation Therapy for the Treatment of Metastatic Merkel Cell Carcinoma

Trial Status: administratively complete

This phase II trial studies the side effects and how well pembrolizumab and radiation therapy work in treating patients with Merkel cell carcinoma that has spread to other places in the body (metastatic). Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as pembrolizumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Giving pembrolizumab and radiation therapy may increase the benefit of pembrolizumab.
