Supplemental Screening for Breast Cancer with Abbreviated Breast Magnetic Resonance for Black Women with Increased Breast Density

Trial Status: active

This study evaluates the role of supplemental screening with abbreviated breast magnetic resonance (AB-MR) for black women with dense breasts and otherwise average risk for breast cancer. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the breast is better able to detect the most breast cancers in women with dense breasts, as opposed to mammography, but the cost of a full breast MRI has precluded its use as a screening tool for all women with dense breasts. One alternative to the full MRI is the abbreviated MRI (AB-MR) which uses less scan time compared to full breast MRI and therefore, reduces its cost. This study may help to identify additional breast cancers on the abbreviated breast magnetic resonance imaging not detected on the 3D mammogram.
