A Proactive Screening Outreach Program for Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening in Patients at the Flatbush Family Health Center

Trial Status: administratively complete

This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness and acceptability of a proactive screening outreach program compared to usual care for increasing colorectal cancer (CRC) screening rates among eligible patients at the Flatbush Family Health Center. Screening for CRC reduces CRC incidence and death, and is recommended for average risk individuals between the ages 45 and 75. CRC screening rates are lower in Brooklyn family health centers, which provide free and subsidized health services to underrepresented minorities, than the national average. Currently, invitations to screen are only offered when a patient is seen by their provider. Because of this, many eligible individuals, particularly 45-55 year olds who do not regularly access healthcare, are under-screened. Proactive invitation to CRC screening through outreach efforts and program approaches, has been shown to increase screening rates. This clinical trial evaluates a proactive CRC screening outreach program, compared to usual care, for increasing CRC screening rates among patients at the Flatbush Family Health Center.
