Documentary-style Educational Videos to Improve Behavior and Cancer Risk Awareness in California Firefighters, BRAVE Trial
This clinical trial evaluates the impact of short documentary-style videos on the awareness of cancer risks and the cancer risk prevention practices of California firefighters. Despite the widespread awareness of increased risk of cancer, risk prevention practices, such as showering as soon as possible after exposure and use of personal protective equipment, are not used consistently. It is thought that many firefighters do not appreciate the impact of their daily behaviors on their cancer risk because the onset of cancer can occur up to 30 years after the exposure. Documentary-style videos with personal stories from firefighters who have been diagnosed with cancer may be an effective method to help people learn about cancer risk and prevention. This may increase the use of prevention measures and lower the risk of developing cancer in California firefighters.
