Incorporating Enhanced Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training (ENHANCE-TTS) into HIV Care Clinics to Improve Tobacco Treatment Care Delivery to People Living with HIV

Trial Status: active

This clinical trial studies whether incorporating Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) training enhanced with clinical tools and facilitation support (ENHANCE-TTS) into HIV care clinics works to improve tobacco treatment care delivery to people living with HIV (PLWH). Smoking rates among PLWH are approximately triple the rate than the rates in the general United States population. Smoking impacts the health of PLWH in a significant way, with PLWH now losing more years of life to smoking than to HIV-related reasons. Because of this, implementing tobacco treatment interventions in HIV care settings is important and urgently needed. ENHANCE-TTS is an evidence-based Tobacco Treatment Specialist training with clinical tools and facilitation support. It provides team building at the clinic as well as pharmacist training, infrastructure planning for systems change, problem-solving, coaching, and tools to support tobacco treatment during clinic visits. Incorporating ENHANCE-TTS into HIV care clinics may be an effective way to improve tobacco treatment care delivery to PLWH.
