Endoscopic Biliary Stent Placement with or without Radiofrequency Ablation in Treating Patients with Biliary Obstruction Arising From Pancreatic Cancer That Cannot Be Removed by Surgery

Trial Status: complete

This randomized phase III trial studies endoscopic biliary stent placement with or without radiofrequency ablation in treating patients with biliary obstruction arising from pancreatic cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. Radiofrequency ablation uses high energy waves to heat and destroy cancer cells.A biliary stent is a device placed in the biliary tract to keep the structure open. It is not yet known whether an endoscopic biliary stent placement is more effective with or without radiofrequency ablation in treating patients with biliary obstruction arising from pancreatic cancer.
