High-Resolution Microendoscopy in Imaging Patients Undergoing Colposcopy for Abnormal Pap Test, HPV, or Cervical Dysplasia

Trial Status: complete

This clinical trial studies a procedure called high-resolution microendoscopy (HRME) in imaging patients who are undergoing colposcopy because they received an abnormal Papanicolaou (Pap) test result, tested positive for human papillomavirus (HPV), or have a history of cervical dysplasia. HRME uses a fluorescent dye called proflavine hemisulfate that "lights up" the tissue of the cervix. A probe is then inserted that takes pictures of the cervix. This may allow doctors to study the cervix without performing surgery, and may help them identify abnormal tissue or cancer.
