Pembrolizumab with Radiation Therapy or Ablation Therapy in Treating Patients with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

Trial Status: complete

This phase II trial studies the side effects and how well pembrolizumab works when given together with radiation therapy or ablation therapy (the removal or destruction of a body part or tissue or its function) in treating patients with colorectal cancer that has spread to other places in the body. Monoclonal antibodies, such as pembrolizumab, may block tumor growth in different ways by targeting certain cells. Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays/gamma rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Ablation therapy kills tumor cells by heating or freezing them. Giving pembrolizumab with radiation therapy or ablation therapy may kill more tumor cells.
