Minimally Invasive or Open Whipple Procedure in Impacting Quality of Life in Patients with Pancreatic Cancer

Trial Status: complete

This pilot clinical trial studies the impact of a minimally invasive or open Whipple procedure on the quality of life (QOL) of pancreatic cancer patients. The Whipple procedure is a necessary procedure for most pancreatic cancers and can be minimally invasive with small incisions or an open procedure with a large incision. Questionnaires that measure QOL, such as the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Hepatobiliary (FACT-Hep), may help identify the effects of treatment on patients with pancreatic cancer. It is not yet known whether there is a difference in QOL between patients who undergo minimally invasive or open Whipple procedure.
