Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment to Identify Impairments in Older Patients with Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer
This clinical trial tests how well the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) works in identifying impairments in older patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer that have not yet started cancer treatment. Recent advances in the treatment of bladder cancer, particularly with immunotherapy, have expanded the number of patients eligible for systemic therapy to include those with more comorbidities who would not previously been considered fit for chemotherapy. The CGA is the complete examination of an older individual, including physical, mental function and emotional state. Prior research has demonstrated that CGA has been shown to improve survival and functional outcomes for older adults when linked to evidence-based interventions in the general population compared to assessment of performance status alone. The CGA may be an effect method to identify baseline impairments to more accurately predict chemotherapy toxicity and guide targeted interventions for any identified impairments.
