This study collects and stores health information, blood and tissue samples (biospecimens) from patients who have esophageal cancer for use in future research studies to help better diagnose and treat this disease. The information learned in this study may give useful information about the causes, risks, treatments and prevention of esophageal cancer.
Study sponsor and potential other locations can be found on ClinicalTrials.gov for NCT01780961.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
I. Develop a prospective database containing medical information from esophageal cancer patients who agree to participate.
II. Create a biospecimen resource that will obtain tissue and biofluid specimens of high quality from subjects with esophageal cancer who agree to participate.
III. Perform prospective genome sequencing on selected subset of collected specimens and correlate genomic analyses performed to patient outcomes and treatment response.
OUTLINE:
Patients' medical records are reviewed for up to 5 years. Patients also undergo collection of tissue sample at the time of diagnostic or therapeutic endoscopy or at the time of surgery, and blood samples preoperatively, postoperatively, at 1 year, and at time of recurrence.
