Proton Beam Radiation Therapy after Surgery for the Treatment of Favorable Histology Wilms Tumor

Trial Status: active

This phase II trial studies the effect of proton beam radiation therapy after surgery in treating patients with favorable histology Wilms tumor. Photon radiation uses high energy x-rays to treat the tumor and these x-rays pass through the tumor and out the other side. Proton radiation uses charged particles instead of x-rays. These particles deliver most of their radiation inside the tumor and reduce the possibility of damage to nearby healthy tissues. Giving proton beam radiation therapy after surgery may kill any remaining tumor cells.
