Patient Navigation and Consultation for Supporting Breast Cancer Survivors Seeking Oncofertility Care
This clinical trial evaluates whether a patient navigation and oncofertility consultation intervention affects the number of breast cancer survivors in a rural community who seek oncofertility care. Normal reproductive system functions can be disrupted in patients who are undergoing or have undergone treatments for breast cancer. As a result, young breast cancer survivors are at high risk of late effects related to reproductive health including infertility, limited contraception options, and sexual dysfunction, all of which can contribute to a reduced quality of life. There are strategies for reducing these effects in the form of oncofertility care, which includes counseling and clinical services on fertility, contraception, and pregnancy health. However, certain populations face barriers to accessing this care. Patient navigation and oncofertility counseling may provide support to patients wanting or needing to seek oncofertility care. This clinical trial evaluates whether an intervention offering these support services to breast cancer survivors increases their engagement with oncofertility care.
