Evaluation of the Effects of Cannabis Use and Circulating Cannabinoids on Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes in Patients With Malignant Melanoma

Trial Status: closed to accrual

This study evaluates the effects of cannabis use and circulating cannabinoids on tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in patients with malignant melanoma. Substantial scientific and public uncertainty exists regarding the effects of cannabis and specific cannabinoids on patients with melanoma. Cannabis has been proposed as an alternative treatment for melanoma but may adversely affect clinical outcomes for patients undergoing treatment with certain cancer medications. TILs are white blood cells that have left the blood stream and migrated into a tumor. An increased presence of TILs is associated with improved outcomes even in early stage disease. By studying TILs in patients with malignant melanoma, researchers may be able to learn more about the effects of cannabis use and circulating cannabinoids on melanoma.
