CLEAR Care Companion Application for Improvement of Outcomes in Patients Who Underwent Radical Cystectomy

Trial Status: administratively complete

This clinical trial tests the clinical and engineering approaches to readmission (CLEAR) care companion application in patients who have undergone radical cystectomy. Radical cystectomy is a procedure that removes the entire bladder. Hospital readmissions are common after major cancer surgery, leading to poorer patient outcomes, increased mortality, and additional medical costs. Radical cystectomy (the removal of bladder for bladder cancer) is a complex operation. For over a decade, readmission rates following radical cystectomy have remained mostly constant, making it one of the hardest to improve readmission rates of any surgery. CLEAR Care Companion is an electronic medical record based application that tracks patient symptoms after radical cystectomy surgery and provides educational material to the patient. This application may lessen the amount of communication that is required between patients and their medical providers after radical cystectomy and may increase patient satisfaction with the care they have received, and potentially reduce the potential for readmissions.
