Behavioral Activation and Medication Optimization to Improve Mental Health in Older Adults After Surgery for Cancer

Trial Status: closed to accrual and intervention

This clinical trial tests how well behavioral activation (BA) and medication optimization (MO) works in improving mental health in older adults who have undergone surgery for cancer. This study is testing a surgical wellness program designed to improve mental, emotional, and cognitive health, since the time around surgery can be stressful. The premise of BA is to help people with mental health stressors to engage in activities that are reinforcing or meaningful and guided by personal values. MO consists of reviewing current medications, identifying the need for, or interest in, a medication adjustment, and the continued assessment of any medication adjustments. Participating in a surgical wellness program that uses BA and MO may reduce stress and improve mood around the time of cancer surgery.
