Education-Based Video (The Prostate Cancer Genetic Literacy Application) to Improve Genetic Literacy and Comprehension in Men at Risk for Prostate Cancer
Trial Status: active
This clinical trial develops and assesses the feasibility of The Prostate Cancer Genetic Literacy Application (PCGLA), an education-based video in men at risk for prostate cancer. Men with lower levels of education may lack knowledge regarding prostate cancer and may not understand the advances in the study of genetics (genomics) and treatment. Education-based videos, such as PCGLA, may be an effective method to help people learn about prostate cancer genetic (genomic) terminology and testing.
Inclusion Criteria
African-American or white men
Living in a rural or urban areas
Age 45 and older
Able and willing to provide informed consent
English-speaking
Willing to participate in the study
Exclusion Criteria
Women will be excluded from participating in this study. However, women will be recruited to serve on an advisory panel to review the video-based educational tool for the comprehension of genomic terminology for prognostic genetic testing in patients with localized prostate cancer
Additional locations may be listed on ClinicalTrials.gov for NCT04550845.
I. To develop a genomic literacy education video for the comprehension of common genomic terminology for prognostic genetic testing in men at risk for prostate cancer.
II. To assess the feasibility a genomic literacy education video on improving comprehension of common genomic terminology for prognostic genetic testing in men at risk for prostate cancer.
OUTLINE: Patients are assigned to 1 of 2 aims.
AIM I: Patients watch the video-based educational tool, Prostate Cancer Genetic Literacy Application (PCGLA) and participate in a semi-structured focus group discussion to evaluate video content and animations over 90 minutes on study. Patients also complete prostate cancer genetic literacy questionnaires pre- and post-video.
AIM II: Patients watch the PCGLA and participate in a semi-structured qualitative focus group on study. Patients also complete the Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Genetics questionnaire to evaluate comprehension and genetic literacy pre-focus group.
