This clinical trial develops and tests how well a targeted navigation intervention works to increase access to care, patient engagement and research participation in patients with liver cancer. There are significant treatment and survival disparities in liver cancer patients; many lack social support and financial resources. The development and implementation of targeted navigation may increase researchers understanding of patient needs and barriers to accessing care, the proportion of patients linked to care for cancer treatment and the proportion of minorities,
specifically Black patients, who enroll in clinical research.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
I. To characterize stakeholder needs and concerns and to identify which factors are associated with the greatest need for navigation.
II. Using the Nominal Group Technique, we will engage key stakeholders to design a targeted navigation program that builds on universal social work referral and incorporates lay navigation.
III. To implement and examine the effectiveness of targeted navigation to increase engagement with the health care system, linkage to appropriate treatment, and enrollment in clinical research.
OUTLINE:
AIM I: Participants complete an interview over 45 minutes on the study.
AIM II: Participants participate in focus groups to design the targeted navigation intervention.
AIM III: Patients undergo a needs assessment, receive general education about liver cancer, and receive support to better communicate with the healthcare team from navigators on study. Patients are contacted biweekly prior to treatment initiation and at least every three months after treatment initiation by the navigator to assess patient needs.
