Understanding and Addressing Rejection of Personalized Breast Cancer Risk Information in Women

This study evaluates the mechanisms driving personalized cancer risk rejection in the context of screening mammography in women.
Inclusion Criteria
* Female sex
* Age 39-49 (i.e., people who are eligible for routine breast cancer screening and for whom guidelines recommend an informed, risk-based decision)
* Being able to read English
Exclusion Criteria
* Prior diagnosis of breast cancer, DCIS, LCIS, known BRCA1/2 gene mutation, Cowan syndrome, Li-Fraumeni syndrome
* Having received previous chest radiation for treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
I. Understand the scientific nature of risk rejection.
Ia. Identify demographic and psychological factors associated with risk rejection.
Ib. Identify how risk rejection affects risk-concordant mammography screening behavior.
OUTLINE: This is an observational study.
Participants complete surveys, receive personal breast cancer risk estimate and education on breast cancer screening and prevention and have medical records reviewed on study.
