Lyopreserved Placental Tissue Wrap (StravixPL) During Radical Prostatectomy for the Improvement of Quality of Life in Patients with Localized Prostate Cancer

Trial Status: administratively complete

This clinical trial studies whether placement of a lyopreserved placental tissue (LPT) wrap, StravixPL, during the surgical removal of all the prostate as well as some surrounding tissue, including lymph nodes (radical prostatectomy) works to improve quality of life in patients with prostate cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body (localized). Erectile dysfunction is common in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, this could be due to the disruption of normal blood and nerve supply to the penis. Allografting is the transplant of tissue from one individual to another individual of the same species who is not an identical twin. StravixPL is a type of allograft that uses placental tissue, it is placed on the nerves/blood vessels responsible for an erection during a radical prostatectomy. StravixPL may have anti-inflammatory and nourishing properties that may help heal the nerves which could result in a reduced amount of time of erectile dysfunction and an improved rate of erection recovery after radical prostatectomy. This may improve quality of life in patients with localized prostate cancer.
