Chronic Loose Stools Following Right-Sided Hemicolectomy for Colon Cancer and the Association with Bile Acid Malabsorption and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth Using a Novel Sampling Device

Inclusion Criteria

• GROUP ONE: * Patients with a personal history of colon cancer post right hemicolectomy and ileo-colonic anastomosis (with or without chemotherapy) who have no evidence of disease (NED) * Patients present for routine colonoscopic surveillance * Ability to understand and willingness to sign an informed consent form, complete web-based symptom assessment, and swallow the ingestible intestinal fluid collection device (CapScan)
• GROUP TWO: * Patients with a personal history of colon cancer post rectosigmoid or sigmoid colectomy (with or without chemotherapy) who have no NED. * Patients presenting for evaluation for routine colonoscopic surveillance * Ability to understand and willingness to sign an informed consent form, complete web- based symptom assessment and swallow the ingestible CapScan device

Exclusion Criteria

• * Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) * Subjects receiving long-term proton pump inhibitor therapy * Subjects who have recently (4 weeks) received antibiotics or probiotics * Subjects receiving bile acid sequestrants, narcotics, or anti-diarrheal agents, who cannot transiently (2 weeks) discontinue them for the conduct of the study * Patients with symptoms suggestive of small bowel or colonic obstruction * Subjects who have undergone more extensive colonic resection * Patients with metastatic disease or regionally spreading disease * Patients actively being treated with chemotherapy or radiation
