Evaluating Vaped D10-Phenanthrene Metabolism in Former Smokers and Non-smokers

Trial Status: active

This clinical trial compares how vaped (D10)phenanthrene breaks down (metabolism) in former smokers to non-smokers. People who smoke continue to be at a higher risk of developing lung cancer than people who never smoked, even years after quitting. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are one of the major substances in cigarette smoke that causes cancer (carcinogenic). (D10)phenanthrene is a simple form of PAH with features similar to a highly carcinogenic PAH but is not classified as carcinogenic. (D10)phenanthrene may be broken down in a more harmful way in the lungs of former smokers compared to people who have never smoked. This may increase the risk for lung cancer even after quitting smoking. Information gathered from this study may help researchers find better ways to prevent or treat cancer.
