Alcohol Reset Challenge to Reduce High Risk Drinking for Cancer Prevention in High Risk Alcohol Users in Oklahoma
This clinical trial tests an alcohol reset challenge to reduce high risk drinking for cancer prevention among high risk alcohol users in Oklahoma. Alcohol is a modifiable risk factor for gastrointestinal (GI) and breast cancers, with heavy, binge, and daily drinking increasing cancer risk. To reduce these cancers, accessible, effective, and scalable alcohol interventions are needed. Mobile Health (mHealth) platforms are well suited for this purpose, as they can screen for high risk drinking and deliver on-demand, evidence-based interventions directly to at-risk individuals. The reset challenge encourages participants to stop drinking alcohol (alcohol abstinence) along with daily mobile (computer, smartphone, or tablet) health prompts to assess drinking plans, coping, craving, and self-efficacy. The Reset Challenge intervention may be feasible and effective in reducing high risk drinking for cancer prevention among high risk alcohol users in Oklahoma.
