A Smoking Cessation Electronic Visit Intervention for Smoking Cessation Among Cigarette Smokers

Trial Status: active

This phase II study evaluates a smoking cessation electronic visit (e-visit) intervention compared to treatment as usual for smoking cessation among cigarette smokers. Cigarette smoking is a significant cause of cancer in the United States. While two-thirds of smokers want to quit, fewer than one-third actually attempt to quit using an evidence-based approach. More comprehensive strategies are needed to increase utilization of existing evidence-based cessation treatment options and improve cessation among smokers. The smoking cessation e-visit intervention gathers information about the participant's smoking history and motivation to quit and uses that information to determine the best cessation medication for the participant. This e-visit intervention may be more effective at ensuring all smokers receive an evidence-based intervention than usual treatment.
