Staff Scientists and Staff Clinicians Career Enrichment Program (SCEP)

The NCI Staff Scientists and Staff Clinicians Career Enrichment Program (SCEP) offers specific tools and skills, targeted to Staff Scientists and Staff Clinicians. The SCEP is an application-based process and selected candidates are invited to participate.

The SCEP candidates will be able to reflect on their own career trajectory and master strategies to network, develop mentoring partnerships and be efficient at work. With the guidance of coaching experts and workshops, participants will learn about preferable work behaviors to be empowered to create a productive and fulfilling environment. The SCEP requires participants to secure a mentor for the 6-month duration of the program and to meet with them for at least 1 hour monthly. Tips and guidance on how to find a compatible mentor are presented during the initial orientation session in January.

The Enrichment Program is for you if:

  • You are an SS/SC interested in a continuing education. You can include the SCEP in your next Quad Review.
  • You are interested in developing more leadership skills.
  • You are a core manager and would like to learn more about managerial skills.
  • You are looking for more fulfillment in your current position.
  • You want to learn about other aspects of the scientific enterprise at NCI.

How to Apply

Application package will include your most recent CV and a one page Letter of Intent (LOI).  LOI should include your goals and expectations for the program, along with a statement indicating your commitment to participate in all activities if you are accepted into SCEP.

If you are a junior SS/SC (within two years of becoming a SS/SC), you may also be interested in the CCR SS/SC Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program (PPMP).  It’s a new resource for those who seek mentoring, support, advice, and constructive criticism from other SS/SC who serve as mentors.

Applications are now CLOSED.
