Modernizing Clinical Trial Communication: 2026 AACR Annual Meeting
April 20, 2026 | 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
Room 2 (Upper Level), San Diego Convention Center San Diego, CA
If you’re attending the 2026 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting, catch this presentation from NCI’s Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT) about artificial intelligence (AI) tools that staff are developing to modernize NCI’s clinical trial processes!
Drs. Juli Klemm, Tanna Nelson, and Umit Topaloglu will discuss their roadmap for modernizing the clinical trials ecosystem. They’ll showcase three AI-enabled tools that address some of the most persistent resource barriers in clinical trial operations.
- The Consent Form Generator transforms research protocols into plain-language consent documents in hours rather than weeks.
- The Lay Summary Generator produces accessible, Section 508-compliant, one-page trial overviews aligned with FDA guidance on participant comprehension.
- The Spanish Translation Tool delivers materials comparable to professional human translation at a fraction of the time and cost.
NCI plans to make the toolkit available to the broader cancer research community, including NCI-funded investigators and network partners. This will enable research teams to redirect effort from document production toward higher-level scientific review and participant engagement.
The session will include a panel discussion and audience Q&A.
