Are you attending the 2026 Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Health Level Seven International (HL7®) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) Connectathon? If so, attend the USCDI+ Cancer Clinical Trial Matching track of this multi-day event.

NCI CBIIT’s Dr. Shannon Silkensen and her team will showcase their implementation guide and how it can be applied to improve patient matching and enrollment in clinical trials. By defining a core set of cancer-specific data elements, this implementation guide standardizes the exchange of information between electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical trial matching services, thereby ensuring patient profiles are consistent and aligned with active oncology protocols and federal interoperability standards.

So, whether you’re a clinician on a care team, a software engineer who develops EHR systems, or a researcher analyzing EHR data, attend this demonstration to share feedback and better understand the power of data harmonization in real-world clinical settings.

This work is associated with the work of the USCDI+ Cancer Team, which NCI CBIIT staff and researchers are a part of. NCI and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT co-lead the USCDI+ Cancer Program, with input from the CMS, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
