NIH Seeks Input on Technologies for High-Quality, Provenanced, Health Data

NIH has issued a Request for Information (RFI) focused on technologies and capabilities that could advance the objectives of the Data COUNTSTM (Collect Data Once, Use Numerous Times) program—a collaborative effort that seeks to provide the research community with access to standardized, provenanced, high-quality, de-identified electronic health record (EHR) data. Your input could help NIH assess available technologies and inform planning for potential future requirements.

Responses are due Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. ET. See the published RFI for submission instructions.

The published RFI includes a list of the technologies and capabilities for which the NIH is seeking information. You must also provide business information details, such as:

  1. which capabilities can be met and whether they are commercial off-the-shelf, minor modifications, or custom development;
  2. the billing model, pricing structure, and any additional features and associated costs;
  3. experience with successful implementations and a list of healthcare partners;
  4. experience of similar work with other federal agencies, industries, and/or non-profit organizations; and
  5. business size and status.

This RFI aligns with NCI’s Real-World Data Program, which focuses on improving the quality, completeness, and collection of EHR data for cancer research. Data COUNTS complements that work by seeking technologies that support source-system extraction, data quality validation, provenance, privacy protections, and approved research access.
