Questions to Ask Your Doctor about Their Experience

These questions can help you decide if a doctor is the right one for you.

  • How much experience (or how many years of experience) do you have treating people with brain or spine tumors?
  • How many people with brain or spine tumors do you treat each year?
  • How many people have you treated with my specific diagnosis?
  • What is your specialty?
  • What are your credentials, such as M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) or Ph.D. (doctorate in an academic area)?
  • Did you participate in a fellowship or specialized training in neuro-oncology?
  • Are you board certified?
  • Do you have any additional certifications?
  • What other health care specialists (doctors, nurses, or social workers) are part of my care team?
  • Should I get a second opinion on my diagnosis and/or treatment?

We encourage you to print these questions and bring them with you to your appointment.
